We have all heard of SMART goals, and some of us may probably have set SMART goals. Specific Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Based.
So why don’t they work all the time. Well our desire to achieve the goal seems to subside immediately after planning for it. We do all the things we are told to, imagining it, visualising it and owning it in our minds. We then miss out the most important part, action. MASSIVE ACTION. It’s easy to say you want a goal ie bigger house, smarter car or more money. It’s not the thinking about it that matters it’s the doing that matters. This is where motivation lets us down. Before we get motivated we need to get AGITATED to get us busy. Then we get MOMENTUM to make it a habit, and then we get MOTIVATED to provide direction. As Steven Covey says ‘ start with the end in mind’. If you have a 5 year goal break it down to yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily and then a TODAY goal. What must you do today to get the ball rolling for the goal? Writing the goal down at each stage and keeping the goal planner with is very useful.Micorsoft do a goal planning template to download to get you started. Don’t be the person that just THINKS about their future, be the person who CREATES it.
